We're now 'oop North' .... Mumbai

Joshi collected us from the Houseboat after breakfast this morning and drove us to Cochin airport for our internal flight to Mumbai.   Our flight wasn't till 4pm so he drove slowly and we stopped for a cup of chai en route

There was a major strike in Kerala today.   The Government has introduced a new small business tax which has infuriated the local Unions.   Apparently a shopkeeper committed suicide rather than pay the taxes so  local shops and petrol stations came out on strike in sympathy today which made the normally busy towns ghostly quiet and our journey to the airport considerably shorter

I spotted this guy in front of us on the road today but photographing it from the back seat of our car through the windscreen wasn't easy

but Joshi (our flexible friend as we've dubbed him) obligingly pulled over onto the verge and waited for the guy to pass by so I could get a better photo from my side window

Note the hosepipe to drain away the melted ice water.        Shark's head soup maybe?    It never ceases to amaze me what sort of things you see on the roads here .....

and to prove my point ... here's a couple of photos that Joshi shared with me - taken by him on his phone camera during his travels ....

Well .... we're here in Mumbai now ... but getting here was quite an experience and another story for later as its now 1.30am Indian time (Wednesday) and we are booked onto an early walking tour in the morning so need to be up at 7am
